NATCHITOCHES- Classes on electronic wiring, pet first aid and financial strategies will be offered by Northwestern State University's Office of Electronic and Continuing Education beginning Oct. 1

Residential Electrical Wiring will concentrate on basic requirements for installing electrical work based on the National Electrical Code in residential, commercial or industrial buildings. The class will place more emphasis on the layout and construction of residential electrical systems. A step by step approach will be taken.

The class will be in Room 203 of Williamson Hall on Wednesdays from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. from Oct. 1 through Oct. 29. There is a fee of $125 for the class. Dr. Rafiqul Islam is the instructor.

Financial Strategies for Successful Retirement will be taught in Alexandria on Tuesdays from Oct. 7 until Oct. 28. The class will be at the University Center at England Airpark from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Robert L. Harger, Jr. is the instructor. There is a fee of $55 for the class. The course consists of four three-hour sessions that cover money management concepts in easy to understand language. Topics include investment basics and types of products suitable for retirement planning, retirement life styles issues, lowering income taxes, risk management, proper estate planning methods and developing a personal financial plan.

A session of Pet First Aid will be on Tuesday, Oct. 28 from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. The class will teach how to give immediate care to an injured or suddenly ill pet until veterinary care is available. The program is not intended to replace veterinary care, but to instruct a pet owner how to react in an emergency and minimize a pet's trauma due to injury. Carrie Blanchard is the instructor. There is a fee of $25 for the class. Another session will be held on Nov. 18.
