FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NATCHITOCHES - Dr. Joel K. Worley has been named acting Associate Dean of Business at Northwestern State University. Worley, a professor of business administration at NSU, will oversee the College of Business while a national search is underway for a Dean of Business to replace Dr. Carroll D. Aby Jr., who retired in May.
The University hopes to have a dean selected by the end of 2001.
"Dr. Worley brings to the Associate Dean's position years
of expertise in the
operation and administration of the Northwestern's College of
Business," said Dr. Thomas Burns, provost and vice president
for academic affairs at NSU. "As the College prepares for
its reaccredidation by the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools
of Business his prior experience in helping the college to achieve
its initial accreditation will be invaluable. His reputation as
a teacher, scholar, and business consultant, provides him those
tools necessary to lead the college. Northwestern is indeed fortunate
to have a person of his stature to fill this position."
Worley has been a member of Northwestern's faculty for 13 years. He has been a professor of business administration since 1991. Worley was an associate professor of business administration at NSU from 1983 until 1986. He was a member of the faculty at Radford University from 1980 until 1983 and from 1986 until 1991. Worley was also an instructor at Virginia Tech and Stephen F. Austin State University.
He earned his doctorate at Virginia Tech and is also a graduate of Stephen F. Austin and the U.S. Naval Post-Graduate School.
"I believe the College of Business at Northwestern has earned a reputation as the top program in Louisiana and our scores on national exit exams show that," said Worley. "I want to build on the work done over the last decade by Dr. Barry Smiley and Dr. Carroll Aby. They have left some big shoes to fill."
Over the next six months, Worley will concentrate on filling vacant faculty positions, developing faculty standards and procedures, development, accreditation and student recruitment. The College of Business has filled one vacancy and is conducting a national search to find faculty to fill open positions for the fall.
In addition to his academic experience, Worley has headed a
consulting firm, Joel K. Worley and Associates since 1978. Worley
has consulted with companies in retailing, wholesaling, manufacturing,
transportation, international trade, the medical field, service
firms, agricultural firms, restaurants, oil field service and
real estate. He also has worked for several years in private business.
Worley has published articles for national and international refereed
journals on subjects including small business, care of AIDS patients
and attitudes on AIDS, business ethics and gender issues. He has
also been an active participant at professional conferences. Worley
was also a founding member and a member of the board of directors
of the International Academy of Management and Marketing.
