NATCHITOCHES- A piano recital by Katerina Zaitseva, a faculty member at Northwestern State University, will be presented Wednesday, April 2 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public.
The program will include "Fantasy, Op. 49" and four waltzes by Chopin, "Fantasy for Piano in Four Hands," by Schubert and "Spanish Rhapsody" by Lizst. She will be joined on "Fantasy for Piano in Four Hands" by assistant professor of piano Nikita Fitenko.
Zaitseva is a native of Moscow and attended the music school affiliated with the Moscow State Conservatory. After graduating with distinction in 1994, she continued her studies at the University of North Texas, where she was granted the Liberace and Adele Marcus Scholarships as well as the outstanding Undergraduate Student Award.
She received her master's degree from the Southern Methodist University. While at SMU, Zaitseva was awarded the Meadows Artistic Scholarship, as well as the Von Mickwitz Prize in Piano. She won several competitions including the MTNA and the SMU concerto competitions. Zaitseva has appeared as a soloist with the Moscow State Conservatory Orchestra, University of North Texas Symphony, Meadows Symphony Orchestra and the Dallas Chamber Orchestra.
In March 2001, she played for the King of Spain, Juan Carlos, at the opening of the new Meadows Museum of Arts in Dallas.
