LPN to RN

The College of Nursing at Northwestern State University offers an articulation plan for the LPN to pursue the Associate of Science in Nursing Degree (ASN). The Associate of Science in Nursing Degree Program is approved by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing, 17373 Perkins Road,  Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70810, telephone number 225-755-7500,  fax number 225-755-7564, www.lsbn.state.la.us. and is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), 61 Broadway, New York, NY 10006, telephone number 800-669-1656 ,  www.NLNAC.org . The purpose of the articulation plan is to facilitate the upward mobility of students in the nursing curriculum.

The Purpose
The Associate Degree in Nursing Program prepares graduates to provide basic nursing care in hospitals and long-term care settings.

Enrollment in the LPN to RN Transition Course (NURA 1060)

 

1. One year of practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse or a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN).

2. Current unencumbered license to practice as a LPN/LVN.

3. Current AHA Healthcare Provider certification in CPR.

4. A minimum grade point average of 2.7 in required courses toward the degree.

5. Completion of the prerequisite courses of the first  semester of the curriculum.

6. No  required entrance exams for nursing.

7. Minimum grade of "C" in all required biology,, chemistry, and math courses.

8. Completion of application to NURA 1060.

9. Completed applications for Fall semester are due by 5/30 and 8/30 for Spring semester.
