Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is a Speed Demon Card?

A: The Speed Demon Card is your multi-purpose ID Card.

Your Speed Demon Card is an access key and must be presented to enter numerous campus facilities, attend special events, obtain services, and utilize the library. Your card and related accounts are non-transferable.

Your NSU ID Card can also be used with three distinct accounts that can be activated by the student.  The accounts currently linked to the NSU ID card are the NSU Meal Plan & Declining Dollars Accounts, Speed Demon Dollars, and Speed Demon Off Campus Banking Account.  These accounts are not co-mingled and represent three distinct accounts with the university or its affiliates.

Q: Can I loan my Speed Demon Card to anyone?

A: If your Speed Demon Card is loaned to another individual other than the cardholder, the individual whose identity is represented on the card assumes all financial and/or criminal liability for the card's misuse.

Q: Does a Speed Demon Card cost anything?

A: No, not for your initial card. The replacement fee for lost or stolen cards is $20.00. There are some exceptions: Students, faculty or staff who obtain Student Identification number changes after receiving their initial card as well as legal name changes are exempt from the $20.00 charge.

Q: What happens if I lose my Speed Demon Card?

A: If your card is lost or stolen report it immediately in person at the Speed Demon Office during our business hours or call us at (318) 357-5131 during non-business hours and leave your name, Student I.D. number and a brief message. You can also place a hold on your account through the website http://my.nsula.edu/

Q: I hate my picture, can I have another one made?

A: Retakes, once the card is printed, are not allowed unless the picture is unusable due to closed eyes or other problems. If you really must have another ID picture made, a replacement can be obtained through the lost ID process, with its normal replacement fee of $20.00.

Q: What should I do if my Speed Demon Card does not work?

A: If for any reason your Speed Demon Card does not work, bring it to the Speed Demon Card office so that we can evaluate the problem.  You may also contact the One Card Technical Support Specialist at 357-4051.

Q: What are your office hours?

A: The  One Card office hours are Monday - Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. You can call and make an appointment if you are unable to make it to the office during normal business hours. Our telephone number is (318) 357-5131.

Q: What happens to my old card after my replacement is issued?

A: Your old card becomes void automatically so if you find your old card, destroy it so that you don't confuse the two cards.

Q: What happens if my Speed Demon Card is damaged?

A: The Speed Demon Card should be treated with care. Stickers, holes, creases, worn magnetic stripes, etc. will render the card inoperable. The Card should not be left in direct sunlight or on a radiator, and should be kept away from magnetic fields and other bankcards, which contain magnetic stripes. These simple precautions will protect the card and its value.  Damaged cards fall under the same replacement procedures as a lost card.

Q: I am a new student. When will I get my Speed Demon Card?

A: Incoming Freshman who attend Freshman Connection will get their I.D. during their Freshman Connection session. Other new students can get their I.D. during the week of fee payment or students can come to the Speed Demon Card office after they have been admitted to the university and registered for their classes. You must pay your tuition fees first or be a recipient of financial aid to have your photograph taken. Government issued identification is required.

Q: What will the Speed Demon Card allow me to do?

A: The Speed Demon Card is an electronic access card that allows you to enter authorized areas. It is also a cashless transaction card that allows for purchases to be debited from your card around campus.  It is currently accepted at the NSU Bookstore, all Sodexho dining locations, drink and snack machines located around campus, Residence Hall laundry machines, and Watson Library.

Q: Will the Speed Demon Card have my social security number printed on it?

A: No, for security reasons no numbers are printed on the Speed Demon Card. Northwestern uses a student identification number instead of social security numbers to identify students.

Q: Who has access to my picture?

A: No one has access to the picture.  In the case of an extreme emergency, or under court order or subpoena the Vice President of Student Affairs may authorize a necessary use of your photo.

Q: How do I open a Speed Demon Account?

A:  By coming to the Speed Demon office located on the first floor of the NSU Student Union and filling out an application form. An initial deposit of $25.00 is required. The form may be downloaded from our website and mailed to the Speed Demon office.
