Creation of
the NSU Enrichment Fund
Northwestern
State University of Louisiana (NSU) recognizes that teaching,
research, and scholarly activities are inseparable. Moreover,
involvement in a research or creative project requires
dedication of effort and time. NSU supports this commitment
through the NSU Enrichment Fund (sometimes referred to as
“the Fund”). The newly-created NSU Research Council (NRC) is
charged with developing policies and procedures that govern
Enrichment Fund grant programs, as well as guidelines for
proposals.
NSU’s
internal grant programs are supported through funds formerly
designated for the Council for University Research Incentive
Awards and by 50% of the Facilities and Administrative Costs
recovered through NSU’s externally funded sponsored programs.
Goals of the
NSU Enrichment Fund
At
its initial meeting of November 5, 2003, the NSU Research
Council (NRC) determined that a proposal-stimulus/seed-grant
type of program and a professional development program–both
aimed at increasing competitiveness for external funding and
academic stature–should be developed and implemented as soon as
possible. The adoption of these particular programs
was based largely on recommendations from faculty respondents to
a campus-wide solicitation for ideas about the kinds of
competitive-grant programs most likely to increase sponsored
project activity at NSU.
