Central Steam Plant

The Central Plant exists to operate the campus high pressure steam boiler plant, monitor energy management systems, and receive/coordinate after-hour emergencies.

  • The staff maintains the high pressure steam boilers, with steam and condensate hot water return lines to meet demands to supply hot water and building heat during winter months. Hourly, daily and annual inspections are performed with information maintained for record keeping. This information is also used to monitor extreme changes in water, gas, and chemical use and as an aide in energy conservation.
  • The staff also monitors and maintains Energy Management Systems to identify Chill Water Systems and Building A/C unit problems. Energy Management Systems are managed to reduce electrical consumption by controlling the supply to each building when idle by adjusting system setbacks.
  • The staff at the Central Plant also receives after hour calls for emergency maintenance requests as well as holiday and weekend needs.  On call personnel are scheduled to respond to emergency needs.

University staff can contact the Central Plant at 5886.
