Teacher Certificationat the Louisiana Scholars' College
The nation is experiencing a shortage of qualified teachers at all levels.
Building on Northwestern State University's long history of exceptional teacher preparation programs, we make it easy for you to enter the teaching profession without giving up your honors education!
The Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education has approved a variety of means for Scholars' College students to attain teacher certification. All paths require the student to pass the appropriate components of the PRAXIS examination.
These joint Scholars'
College/College of Education majors all lead to
teacher certification:
- Elementary Education (BA),
- Music Education (Instrumental, all levels K-12 or Vocal, all levels K-12--BME), and
- English Education, 7-12 (BA) .
In addition, Alternate
Certification remains an option for Scholars' College students and has
been streamlined by recent reforms in Louisiana.
