Abstract
This thesis is a descriptive narrative of
the spread of the Isis cuh from Alexandria,
Eygpt to the Campanian region in Italy. The work considers the broader
historic
background of the cult in order to understand fully how and why the
Isis cult came to
Italyand stayed for nearly one thousand years. A closer inspection of
the Isis cult at
Pompeii offers a more in depth look at the cult and its worshippers.
This closer
inspection shows that the Isis cuh at Pompeii, which often used as the
source of much
information regarding the cult, was different from other Isis cuhs in
that it had no
connection to the cult of Serapis unlike most other Isis cults.
