Abstract
An original translation and study of the surgical
treatment of head and facial wounds found within Chapters 1 and 2 from
Book One of the virginal Glossulae
Ouatour Magistrorum Super Chirurgium Rogerii et Rolandi. The
treatments are evaluated based on their expected effects and outcomes
as well as in comparison to the recommendations of modern surgeons and
medical texts. This thesis shows that the methods suggested by the 12th
and 13th century Salernitans are both empirical and practical.
