As a classicist, T. Davina McClain works with the literatures, languages, history, and cultures of the ancient Greeks and Romans. Although her primary area of research is the representation of women in the writings of the Roman historian Livy, her publications range from a Graphic Greek Grammar (to help students with the forms and syntax of the Greek language) and a commentary on Book I of Livy's history to articles on women and religion on Delos and a comparison of the Hopi myth Field Mouse goes to War with the world of the Greek epic. Her current project is a book on ancient mythology. Davina also serves as the assistant editor of Amphora, the American Philological Association's Outreach journal.
Davina teaches SOR 1010 (Scholars' orientation class), ENGL 3400 (Greek Myth and Drama), and has introduced ancient Greek into the curriculum. She also lectures in Texts and Traditions I. In 2005, she was honored with the American Philological Association's Award for Excellence in Teaching on the Collegiate Level.
She also holds positions in the major organizations of the discipline: she is secretary-treasurer of the Classical Association of the Middle West and South-Southern Section; Vice President of the Gulf Region for the Classical Association of the Middle West and South; and serves on the Outreach Committee and the Committee on the Status of Women and Minorities for the American Philological Association .
