A native of Germany, Frank Schicketanz has spent nearly half of his adult life in Europe, where he did graduate work at the University of Munich, Germany and the University of Vienna, Austria, besides his work at Tübingen. He also spent eight years teaching various levels of English in different parts of Germany as well as teaching German to foreigners at the University of Freiburg, Germany.

Upon his return to the U.S., he taught German at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California and was an assistant professor of German at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock before joining the Scholars' College. In addition to publishing German poetry, Dr. Schicketanz has published a book on the memoirs of the German-American statesman Carl Schurz and one on love in twentieth century German fiction, the first in an envisioned three part series.

Recently, under a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, Dr. Schicketanz studied the feasibility of teaching German across the curriculum and he did research in Germany with the help of a Northwestern State University research grant. Dr. Schicketanz was the recipient of the Mildred Hart Bailey Research Award, and he is also co-PI on an LSQSF grant to update the technological facilities at the college for foreign languages.
