Dr. Jean D'Amato
Professor of Classics

Jean D'Amato brings to the College her extensive experience at Stanford University's Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studies in Rome and at the National Endowment for the Humanities, where she served for several years as Program Officer. The recipient of an award for excellence in teaching at the University of Southern California, she has also taught at Williams College, Tufts University, Brandeis University, and the University of Pittsburgh.


Dr. D'Amato's scholarly interests include both Latin literature and art history; she has received the Mildred Hart Bailey Award for research at Northwestern and is continuing her study of antiquities in southern Italy with a research award from the American Philosophical Association. Every few years, she leads a group of students on a tour of Italy including Rome, operas, and other famous sites.


In addition to Latin and Greek and Latin Elements in English, Dr. D'Amato routinely teaches in the first year of the Texts and Traditions sequence as well as conducting advanced courses in Classics and Art History.
