Minor in Liberal Arts

 

Students inside and outside the college will find a Liberal Arts Minor a valuable addition to their majors. Its requirements are:

 

  • At least 8 credit hours in Scholars’ College science courses, such as Comparative Neurobiology or Art and Science: A Cross-Disciplinary Investigation
  • At least 8 credit hours in Scholars’ College humanities or social science courses, such as Terrorism and Counterterrorism in the 19th-20th Centuries or Introduction to Economic Reasoning
  • Additional courses in such areas as biology, chemistry, ecology, mathematics, art history, foreign languages, history, philosophy, and so on
  • At least 12 hours at the 3000-level and above; no more than 4 hours at the 1000-level
  • Up to 6 hours can be taken outside of the Scholars’ College
  • 24 minimum credit hours

Minor in Classics

 

Students choosing Latin or Greek as their foreign language might want to acquire a Classics Minor. Its requirements are 21 hours of Latin or Greek, and courses in classical studies, such as Greek and Roman Art: A General Survey or Greek Authors.

Minor in Philosophy

 

The philosophy minor is a popular option for all of Northwestern’s students. Students interested in questions about the some of the most profound and fundamental issues, such as reality, knowledge, or values, will find pursuing a philosophy minor worthwhile. Its requirements are Introduction to Philosophy; Logic or Symbolic Logic; any two of Ancient Philosophy, Medieval Philosophy, Modern Philosophy, and Contemporary Analytic Philosophy; and five additional hours of philosophy, for a minimum of 19 hours of philosophy.
