The Anthropological Society is open to all students who are interested in the study of human cultures - past and present. As members of this club, anthropology students have the chance to explore topics and settings for which time in the classroom does not allow.
Some of the club's activities over the years have included the presentation of papers at the Louisiana Archaeological Society Conference and the Caddo Conference; assisting regional archaeologist Jeffrey Girard with curation of collections; assisting local groups with preservation projects, like re-bousillaging the Badin-Roque House. Guest speakers regularly meet with the club, presenting their latest research findings or sharing their recollections of archaeological digs of the past.
One of the most active clubs on campus, the Anthropological Society of NSU also helps the Williamson Museum with school tours and exhibitory. Annually, the club helps sponsor Basket Day, an event which promotes traditional crafts of Louisiana Indian tribes. The Anthropological Society also works closely with the Native American Student Association; recently, the two clubs worked together to bring a group of traditional Caddo dancers and drummers to NSU for the Caddo Conference.
