CRO & Louisiana Army National Guard (LANG)

The Northwestern State University Cultural Resource Office and the Louisiana Army National Guard (LANG) are currently engaged in a multiple-year agreement to develop and implement an Integrated Cultural Resource Management Program for the cultural resources located within the LANG properties throughout the state. The development of this plan requires surveys and evaluations of all LANG properties to determine if locations, sites, buildings, and objects found on those properties are of historic or cultural significance. Among the properties being evaluated are all armories throughout the state, Camp Villere, Camp Beauregard, Jackson Barracks, and the Region IV Non-Commissioned Officer Training Academy in Ball. Sites that are determined to be of historic and/or cultural significance are recommended for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places. Archaeological surveys and historical research are currently being conducted by the staff and field crew of the Cultural Resource Office.

As these initial surveys and evaluations are conducted, an interim Integrated Cultural Resources Management Plan is being developed so that LANG can take steps to preserve and protect the significant sites/buildings/objects identified for preservation. Upon completion of this multiple-year project, program directors will provide LANG facility/activity commanders/managers with an Integrated Cultural Resources Management Program, which will provide the information needed to make appropriate decisions about the management of cultural resources.
