Fields of Interest:

Louisiana History, Colonial to Present; History and Culture of Louisiana's Creoles; African-American History; Twentieth-Century American Social, Cultural, and Political History; Civil War and Reconstruction; Oral History, and Heritage Resources.

Professor Dollar primarily teaches courses on Twentieth-Century America, Civil War, and Oral History Methods. Currently, her main research interest involves Louisiana's Creoles of color and the changes in social status that Americanization brought to their lives between 1803 and the 1930s. She recently completed her dissertation entitled, "'Black, White, or Indifferent': Race, Identity, and Americanization in Creole Louisiana." She is currently working with the Cane River National Heritage Area and the Cane River Creole National Historical Park on various projects involving interpretation of sites related to the Creole culture of Natchitoches Parish.

She has authored a book entitled The Freedmen's Bureau Schools of Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana, 1865-1868, and a number of articles including "The Red River Campaign, Natchitoches, Louisiana: A Case of Equal Opportunity Destruction" (Louisiana History), "Viney Grove Methodist Church: A View into the Frontier Ministry of Western Washington County, Arkansas" (Ozark Historical Review), and "A Brief History of Camp Beauregard, 1905-1997" (Southern Studies). She also serves as editor of The Creole Chronicles, a publication put out by the Louisiana Creole Heritage Center.
