A native of Ohio, Dr. Aichinger interrupted his academic career for twelve years to work as Tour Manager (North America) for Austrian Airlines and to manage his family's travel agency in Cleveland.  his first teaching position was at the University of Virginia-Clinch Valley College in Wise, Virginia.  He has been at NSU since 1989.

Dr. Aichinger has presented papers at both the Louisiana/Mississippi and Southern Political Science Association meetings.  In addition to writing a critical review of judge Robert Bork's book, The Tempting of America, for the The Political Science Reviewer, he was written several articles for the local print media on topics such as term limitations and apportionment.  Dr. Aichinger is active in his publications.
