Marion Loftin Scholarship

The School of Social Sciences offers the Marion Loftin Scholarship to Sociology majors at NSU. Available to majors at any classification, from entering Freshmen to Seniors, the scholarship results in a $500.00 per semester award to those selected.

The scholarship applicant must be a continuing Sociology major and have a 3.0 GPA overall to be eligible to apply. Entering Freshmen are instead required to have a minimum composite ACT score of 21 to apply, and to declare Sociology as their major.

Among the pool of qualified applicants, GPAs will be ranked and used to narrow down the final choices to those most qualified. More than one scholarship may be awarded during an academic year. And, recipients may continue to receive the scholarship if they maintain good academic progress as Sociology majors. It is possible for a student to receive the scholarship award through their entire undergraduate Sociology program!

Marion Loftin was a 1935 graduate of Louisiana State Normal College (NSU's former name), and passed away in 1997. His fond memories of Natchitoches resulted in this generous gift to NSU's Sociology majors. He had an illustrious career in Sociology for many years.

The Scholarship is awarded through applications, with selections announced each Fall semester, approximately mid-September.

The application deadline for the annual Fall semester scholarship is May 1. To apply, send evidence of eligibility in a letter stating your interest to:
