Southern Studies: An Interdsciplinary Journal of the South is a peer reviewed journal published quarterly from the Southern Studies Institute. The School of Social Sciences at Northwestern State University houses the institute.
Southern Studies: An Interdsciplinary Journal of the South began publishing in 1962 under the name "Louisana Studies." In 1977, the title of the journal changed to "Southern Studies" to present a wider array to topics, as many that relate to the state of Louisiana also relate to the south as a whole. Again, in 1990, the journal underwent a format change integrating new printing technologies along with a wider audience. Those volumes printed since 1990 are the New Series of the journal.
