Preparing practitioners for careers in student affairs administration in higher education, the 48 semester hour program in Student Personnel Services at NSU has been offered since 1965.  Alumni of the program are working throughout the US in financial aid, admissions, housing, orientation, judicial affairs, student activities, athletics/intramurals as well as deans and vice presidents.  The program offers students both theoretical based courses and an experiential component including practicum and internship experiences in higher education settings of the student’s choice.  

The counseling track prepares students to become counselors in a wide variety of counseling settings. When enrolled full-time, the student may complete the 48 semester hour program in two years and the intervening summer. The part time student may take more time and carefully schedule courses sequentially to assure a reasonable completion.  A one semester practicum in addition to two semesters of internship is required after the student has completed prerequisite courses. Many students complete one additional course and take the NCE in their last semester in hopes of becoming licensed professional counselor (LPC).
