The mission of the Department of Student Services at Northwestern State University parallels and supports the mission of Northwestern State University which is, in part, to prepare students to adapt to change throughout life. To this end, Student Services supports the University by providing services and programs designed to create an environment conducive to student development, growth, and learning. Student Services adheres to a philosophy that attempts to meet students at respective developmental stages and assist them in their personal goals, and spiritual, physical, career, social, and academic growth. Therefore, Student Services delivers programs, services and activities in order for students to learn better communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills; experience enhanced self esteem through self appraisal and values clarification; experience healthy life styles, selection of career goals, and independence; and learn social responsibility through service. Through the coordination of the offices in Student Services (Residential Services, Health Services, Counseling and Career Services, and Testing), staff attempt to positively impact and develop citizens using the whole person model.
