ReportsFor each instrument, a report, summarizing the collected data, is prepared and distributed to various areas of the University community. The Assessment Office continuously seeks feedback from areas utilizing these reports in order to provide a more valuable and user-friendly version. Listed below are some of the assessment tools, which are part of the University Assessment Cycle. By clicking on the instrument name, one is able to see a sample of the instrument. Reports are accessible by semester for the University as a whole. If a report for an individual college and/or department is required, please contact the Assessment Office. The website is still undergoing changes, so please revisit occasionally. ACT Student Opinion Survey - This survey is mandated by the Board of Regents and is conducted each spring semester. The 2005 survey was the sixth consecutive administration. Currently enrolled students report their satisfaction with programs, services, and other aspects of their college experience. ACT Collegiate Assessment of Academic Proficiency - This instrument by ACT allows institutions to measure and evaluate their general education programs. At NSU, students’ skills are assessed in the following areas: Writing Skills, Mathematics, and Science Reasoning. The instrument is administered each Fall and Spring semester by the Director of Testing Services. Exit Interview - Four open-ended questions designed to provide qualitative data regarding a graduating student’s perceptions on their experiences at NSU. This interview is given each Fall and Spring semester. This interview may be coupled with the quantitative data from the Graduating Student Survey to provide a more complete perspective of graduating students. Effective Spring 2006, Exit Interviews were deemed optional by the University Assessment Committee. Although a few units continue this process, there is no University composite report produced due to the low number of responses. If you would like to see reports from individual units, please request via the Office of University Planning and Assessment. Graduate Student Exit Survey - To evaluate the graduate degree programs, a pilot survey was administered in Spring 2004. The survey items refer to the Graduate School Office & Services, Academic Programs, and Support Services & Personnel. Graduating Student Survey - Another instrument designed to gather information about graduating students’ perceptions of their experiences at NSU. This survey provides quantitative data that may be used in conjunction with the qualitative data from the Exit Interview to more richly describe the perceptions of graduating students. The first 80 items of this survey are non-degree specific. Each college and/or department has the option to provide additional items that are unit specific. Non-Returning Student Survey - To assist with enrollment management objectives within the University’s strategic plan, this survey is administered via telephone each semester in the Office of Student Success and New Student Programs. The first administration was conducted during the Fall of 2005. The target population is students previously enrolled at NSU, but not enrolled during the semester of the survey administration. Student Evaluation of Instruction - The evaluation includes items about both the instructor and the course itself. There is a pencil & paper version (10 items plus comment section) for traditional classes and an on-line version (15 items plus comment section) for electronic courses. This instrument is administered in both the Fall and Spring semesters of each academic year. Future goals include revision of the instrument and electronic administration for all classes. Due to the confidential nature of this instrument, results are available only to faculty being evaluated and their supervisors. |
