Library Instruction Service
Faculty are encouraged to coordinate their assignments with the Shreveport Nursing Library staff so that students receive hands-on orientation to information literacy skills they will need to complete their assignments efficiently and effectively. To schedule a hands-on class on the 9 computers in the library, faculty should contact Dot Fernandez at (318) 677-3013 or fernandezd@nsula.edu
All faculty are encouraged to require their students to complete the award-winning TILT tutorials (information literacy tutorials) at TILT which include these modules: Selecting Information Sources; Searching Library Databases and the Internet; and Evaluating and Citing Information Sources. The TILT tutorials include 3 quizzes that are automatically graded by the TILT software and can be emailed to instructors. Click here for access to the TILT tutorials.
Faculty are encouraged to require students who have already completed the TILT modules to complete 8 of the CORE information literacy tutorials at http://core.lib.purdue.edu/ which include the following key modules: Types of Info, Search Basics, Topic Exploration, Keyword Search, Types of Searches, Indexes, Internet, and Evaluating Sources. CORE quizzes are automatically graded by the CORE software and can be emailed to instructors.
Faculty are encouraged to advise students to printout the userguides and take the online tutorials that appear at http://www.nsula.edu/watson_library/online_tutorials.htm to orient themselves to the nursing and allied health databases.
