The University’s economic development efforts are spearheaded by the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) through the University’s Office of Technology, Innovation and Economic Development. The NSU SBDC is one of ten centers anchored by the Louisiana Small Business Development Center (LSBDC) in Monroe. The SBDC Centers across Louisiana, working with participating universities, Louisiana Economic Development and the U.S. Small Business Administration, strive to enhance the economic development of Louisiana. The LSBDC Northwest and Central Region hosted by Northwestern State University serves the 14-parish area of Avoyelles, Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, Claiborne, DeSoto, Grant, Natchitoches, Rapides, Red River, Sabine, Vernon, Webster and Winn parishes.

The SBDC offers confidential business consulting to entrepreneurs and existing business owners in Northwest Louisiana. Services include entrepreneurial guidance, business start-up assistance, and an abundance of expertise in marketing, business planning, financial analysis, industry-specific information and loan structuring and packaging through one-on-one no-cost counseling and training seminars.

Chris Maggio

“Northwestern State University’s continuing commitment to economic development across North-Central Louisiana is reflected in the location of Louisiana Small Business Development Centers on NSU campuses in Natchitoches, Shreveport and Alexandria. Support from these regional centers has enhanced small businesses in this area for decades. That benefits Northwestern by creating the need for quality academic programs that prepare students for positions of leadership in business and other segments of the regional workforce.”
