The University’s economic development efforts are spearheaded by the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) through the University’s Office of Technology, Innovation and Economic Development. The NSU SBDC is one of ten centers anchored by the Louisiana Small Business Development Center (LSBDC) in Monroe. The SBDC Centers across Louisiana, working with participating universities, Louisiana Economic Development and the U.S. Small Business Administration, strive to enhance the economic development of Louisiana. The LSBDC Northwest and Central Region hosted by Northwestern State University serves the 14-parish area of Avoyelles, Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, Claiborne, DeSoto, Grant, Natchitoches, Rapides, Red River, Sabine, Vernon, Webster and Winn parishes.

The SBDC offers confidential business consulting to entrepreneurs and existing business owners in Northwest Louisiana. Services include entrepreneurial guidance, business start-up assistance, and an abundance of expertise in marketing, business planning, financial analysis, industry-specific information and loan structuring and packaging through one-on-one no-cost counseling and training seminars.

“We’re proud to host the Louisiana Small Business Development Centers on our NSU main campus in Natchitoches, our campus in Shreveport, and in Alexandria. These regional Centers are integral to Central Louisiana’s economic development and ultimately the University’s success. A thriving business community fuels our academic endeavors and allows NSU to provide quality education to our students.”
