Amutan commissions as 2nd Lieutenant in U.S. Army

NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State University ROTC Cadet Jan Amutan of Bossier City, right, was commissioned as a 2ndLieutenant in the U.S. Army during a Jan. 23 ceremony.  Amutan graduated from NSU in May 2025 with a Bachelor of Science in Unified Public Safety Administration with a concentration in Criminal Justice. He has commissioned in the U.S. Army Engineer Branch and will attend the Engineer Basic Officer Leader Course at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He will serve with the 1022ndEngineer Company. Before enrolling at NSU, Amutan served 10 years in the U.S. Air Force.  His commissioning Friday marked the final transition from enlisted Air Force A/C mechanic to Army Engineer Officer. During his years as an ROTC cadet, Amutan served in key leadership positions overseeing labs, recruiting operations, personnel actions and other responsibilities. Lt. Col.
