Pianist Asher Armstrong to perform at NSU March 17

NATCHITOCHES – Pianist Asher Armstrong will present a recital at Northwestern State University on Tuesday, March 17 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall.

The concert is part of the Louisiana Piano Series International. Tickets are $15 for the recital. Northwestern, BPCC@NSU and Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts students are admitted free with a current student I.D. A livestream will be available at www.nsu.la/CAPA-LIVE. Associate Professor of Piano Dr. Francis Yang is director of the of the Louisiana Piano Series International.

The program will include works by Gayane Chebotaryan, Maria Herz, Jean Coulthard, Veronique Vaka, César Franck and Franz Schubert.

Armstrong has been described as “powerful, big-boned” (American Record Guide) and “graceful, agile, and spontaneous” (Fanfare). He has performed widely across Europe and North America, with recent recitals at the Penderecki Academy in Kraków, the Royal College of Music in London, and the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. His three solo albums feature works by Brahms, Busoni and late-Romantic virtuosos. A passionate advocate for overlooked and contemporary repertoire, Armstrong has premiered works by Varvara Gaigerova and others. He currently teaches at the University of Toronto and serves as an advanced examiner for the Royal Conservatory of Music.
