Covington attends America MathFest

NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State University Professor of Mathematics Dr. Judith Covington attended the Mathematical Association of America Mathfest, the annual meeting of the association.  Over 1,800 mathematicians attended the summer meeting in Boston.

Covington currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors in the elected position of Chair of the Council on Sections. Regional groups of MAA are known as Sections, and there are 29 Sections of the MAA, with the local one being the Louisiana/Mississippi Section.

While in Boston, Covington attended the Board of Directors and participated in the meeting of Congress, which consists of representatives of each of the 29 Sections as well as other at-large representatives and members of the Board. MAA Mathfest officially started with the opening of the Exhibit Hall.

As part of the meeting Covington interacted with math faculty and students from a variety of locations. She was part of the team that lead the introduction to MAA Mathfest session for first time attendees to MAA Mathfest and she also led the Section Officers Meeting.

While in Boston Covington was also able to visit with a childhood classmate and fellow NSU alumna Lisa Jan Bryant Magnuson.
