USE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN SOCIAL MEDIA GRAPHICS

Artificial intelligence (AI) tools may be used for approved brainstorming, ideation, copy development and other marketing purposes; however, AI-generated or AI-edited graphics may not be used to create, modify, recreate or alter Northwestern State University logos, wordmarks, marks, mascots or other official brand elements.

Official NSU logos and brand marks must always be obtained from approved university brand resources and used exactly as provided. Logos may not be redrawn, regenerated, distorted, modified, recolored, re-proportioned or otherwise altered through AI or other graphic design tools.

AI-generated imagery may be used in university social media content only when it does not incorporate or alter official NSU logos, marks or other protected brand elements and when the content otherwise complies with the university’s Marketing and Branding Guidelines, accessibility requirements and applicable policies.

All social media graphics representing Northwestern State University must maintain the university’s established visual identity. When in doubt about whether AI-generated content is appropriate for university use, departments and campus units should contact the Office of Marketing and Branding before publishing.

The Office of Marketing and Branding reserves the right to require the removal or correction of social media content that does not comply with university branding standards.

ACCESSIBILITY AND ADA COMPLIANCE

All Northwestern State University social media accounts are required to follow the university’s ADA Social Media Accessibility Guidelines to ensure that digital content is accessible to all users, including individuals with disabilities. These guidelines are provided through the university’s required social media accessibility training and supporting internal resources.

All individuals who create, publish or manage content on official Northwestern State social media accounts must follow these accessibility standards. Account administrators are responsible for ensuring that anyone contributing to their account—including employees, student workers or student organization leaders—has received the appropriate training and understands the accessibility requirements. Administrators must also ensure that these guidelines are communicated internally to all contributors.

Accessibility practices include, but are not limited to, providing alternative text for images, ensuring videos include captions when required, using accessible color contrast, avoiding excessive use of decorative text in graphics, and following platform-specific accessibility best practices.

Failure to follow Northwestern State University’s social media accessibility guidelines places responsibility on the administrators of the account. Accounts that repeatedly fail to meet accessibility standards, or that do not comply with required training and guidelines, may be subject to review by the Office of Marketing and Branding.

The university reserves the right to restrict, suspend or remove social media accounts that do not comply with required ADA accessibility standards or that fail to maintain accessible content practices.

Ensuring accessibility is a shared responsibility and is essential to maintaining inclusive communication across all Northwestern State University platforms.
