The Natchitoches-Northwestern Symphony Orchestra brings together talented students, faculty, and community musicians in powerful performances that enrich both Northwestern State University and the surrounding region. Under the leadership of Dr. Douglas Bakenhus, the Symphony performs classical masterworks alongside contemporary compositions, highlighting artistry, collaboration, and musical excellence.
From intimate chamber concerts to large-scale productions, the Symphony provides students with invaluable professional training and performance experience while inspiring audiences through dynamic and memorable programs.

Chamber Choir is Northwestern State University’s flagship auditioned SATB ensemble, featuring highly skilled student vocalists who serve as musical ambassadors for NSU. The choir has earned awards in competitions across the United States and Europe and performed at state, regional and national music conferences. Each year, Chamber Choir presents the beloved Lessons and Carols at the Minor Basilica in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
Lyrica is Northwestern State University’s premier unauditioned treble choir, open to students of all majors. The ensemble performs throughout the region and internationally, earning honors including Gold and Best Treble Choir at the Laurea Mundi Budapest Competition. Lyrica tours annually, performs throughout the Natchitoches community and offers a welcoming environment for singers of all backgrounds.
Orpheus is an unauditioned tenor-bass chorus at Northwestern State University, open to students of all majors. With more than 30 years of musical tradition, the ensemble performs throughout the Natchitoches community and region, including featured performances at the Christmas Gala. Orpheus explores a diverse range of choral music while fostering a welcoming and uplifting community for singers.
