NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State University volleyball brought a cause bigger than the court to Prather Coliseum Thursday, Oct. 1, as the Demons hosted their annual Fork Cancer match.

The match brought together student-athletes and fans in support of the fight against cancer. Pink filled the stands as the NSU community rallied around the cause during the Demons’ five-set Southland Conference match against Southeastern Louisiana. The annual event gives the volleyball program an opportunity to recognize those affected by cancer while raising awareness of the disease.

Fork Cancer has become a tradition across NSU Athletics, with Demon teams using games and matches throughout the year to raise awareness and support those affected by cancer. Football, soccer, basketball, baseball and softball have joined volleyball in hosting Fork Cancer events over the years.

Fork Cancer events have been part of NSU Athletics for more than a decade, giving student-athletes opportunities to compete in honor of family members, friends and others whose lives have been affected by cancer. Over the years, NSU teams have used the events to bring awareness to different forms of cancer and connect competition with a larger cause.

The effort will continue this fall when NSU football hosts Houston Christian for Fork Cancer and Senior Day Saturday, Nov. 14, at 1 p.m. in Turpin Stadium. The game is presented by Natchitoches Regional Medical Center.
