At Northwestern State University, a bachelor’s degree in Psychology or Addiction Studies builds a strong foundation in understanding human behavior and prepares students for careers in mental health, human resources, education, and community services. Addiction Studies graduates are well-prepared for roles such as Addiction Counselors. For advanced training, NSU’s master’s program in Clinical Psychology offers specialized preparation for clinical practice, research, or doctoral study, equipping graduates to make a meaningful impact.

Degree Programs

Bachelor of Science in Addiction Studies

A bachelor’s degree in addiction studies offers an understanding of the human mind, addictive behaviors, and advances in addiction counseling.  Students have the opportunity to join one of the fastest growing job fields. Addiction Studies graduates typically work as Addiction Counselors.

Bachelor of Science in Psychology

The bachelor’s in psychology offers students the flexibility to gain an overall understanding of the field or specialize in several areas.  There is great demand for graduates with psychology degrees. Employers need people with communication skills; the ability to collect, organize, analyze and interpret data; and an understanding of human behavior.

Master of Science in Clinical Psychology

The bachelor’s in psychology offers students the flexibility to gain an overall understanding of the field or specialize in several areas.  There is great demand for graduates with psychology degrees. Employers need people with communication skills; the ability to collect, organize, analyze and interpret data; and an understanding of human behavior.

Minor Requirements for Psychology or Addiction Studies

Psychology Minor Requirements: (18 Semester hours) Psychology 1010; three semester hours (3) from Psychology 2050, 2430 or 2450; six semester hours (6) from Psychology 3010, 3020, 3050, 3060, 3200, 4440, 4510, or 4700; and six semester hours (6) from Psychology 4040, 4410, 4400, 4450, 4470, 4500, or 4650. A minimum of a C (2.0) grade point average is required in all coursework taken to complete the minor.

 

Addiction Studies Minor Requirements: (21 semester hours)Addiction Studies 1010, 2050, 2430, 2450, 3010, 3020, and 4510. If AS/PSYC 4510 is part of their major students can select from AS 4040, 4450 or 4500.
