NATCHITOCHES – Louisiana creative writers in high school and college aer invited to submit work to be included in “Nana’s Icebox,” a single-issue art and literary magazine created by students in a senior level English class at Northwestern State University.
“Nana’s Icebox” will “showcase the work of young writers and creatives in Louisiana. If you are a Louisiana creative around high school or college age, we want to see your work,” said Dr. Rebecca Macijeski, associate professor and coordinator of Creative Writing Programs at NSU.
Students in English 4380 Special Projecdts: Literary Magazine class deveped the concept of “Nana’s Icebox” as a type of time capsule modeled on the way a Nana or Grandma would hang poems and artwork their children and grandchildren created on the kitchen icebox. The magazine is “dedicated to poetry, fiction, nonfiction, photography and artwork that endeavors to celebrate and preserve the roots of childlike wonder for Louisiana creatives.”
“Nana’s Icebox” is scheduled for online launch and print release in early December. The deadline for submission is 11:59 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24.
