NATCHITOCHES – The Cammie G. Henry Research Center at Northwestern State University’s Watson Library is celebrating the 85th anniversary of the Louisiana Collection with a special exhibit that will run through the end of the semester. A reception will take place Oct. 8.

“The first part of this installation highlights the people and the materials associated with the founding of the Louisiana Collection by University Librarian Dr. Eugene P. Watson in 1940 through just before the collection moves to the new library in late 1972,” said University Archivist and Records Officer Donna Baker.

Watson became librarian in 1940 and immediately began collecting Louisiana papers, books, maps and pamphlets when the library was located in Russell Hall.

“It feels ephemeral at first and then it goes on to the time it entered this building,” Baker said.  P

art 2 of the exhibit will open in January with a significant focus on the Cammie G. Henry Collection, which was a gift to the NSU Archives from the Henry family.

The Oct. 8 reception for the public will be from 5:30-7 p.m. with light refreshments.

The Cammie G. Henry Research Center is located on the third floor of the library.  Hours are 8:30 a.m.-4:45 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8:30-11:30 a.m. Fridays.
