NATCHITOCHES – A recital featuring piano music from Ecuador will be presented at Northwestern State University on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 5:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public. A livestream will be available at www.nsu.la/CAPA-LIVE.
“Piano Music From Ecuador” is an hour-long recital program showcasing some of the rich traditions, dances, and rhythms of the country. Composers include Luis Humberto Salgado, Gerardo Guevara, Ines Jijon, Sixto Maria Duran and Salvador Bustamante Celi. Featured guest artists will be Norman Cuesta of the Conservatorio de Música Salvador Bustamante Celi and Universidad Nacional de Loja in Ecuador and his high school student, Ana Sofia Freire will be joining NSU piano majors from Ecuador, Erik Cabrera, Irene Gomez, Jose Luzuriaga, Belen Tenesaca, Steven Mendoza and Melissa Patino and Associate Professor of Piano Francis Yang.
The pianists will be presenting this as a lecture recital at the Louisiana Music Teachers Association State Conference in New Orleans on Friday, Oct. 17 and in November, the piano majors and Yang will perform the program at the North Texas International Piano Symposium in Commerce, Texas.
