NSU CoRec teams win state championship and earn second place finish

NEW ORLEANS – Northwestern State University’s CoRec flag football team won the 2025 state championship and Sportsmanship Award at the LCIRSA State Championships hosted by University of New Orleans. The men’s volleyball team finished as the state runner-up.

Members of the CoRec flag football team, which defeated UL-Monroe in the finals, were Kaley Koss, Sean Mitcham, Brock Sylvia, Austin Burr, Malik Marzett, Sebastian Molette, Logan Carter, Deacon Lafollette, Kaden Morrison, Jenna Marler, Shelby Deason, Kaiya Causey, Molly Wiley, Macy Wiley, Jordan Porterfield and Precious Green.

Members of the men’s volleyball team were Evan Fernandez, Hayden Baldwin, Cammeron Possoit, Antonio Hall, Hayden Crowell and Avery Morgan.

Northwestern took seven teams and more than 80 students to the state tournament. The women’s flag football and CoRec volleyball teams advanced to the semifinals and the men’s flag football team advanced to the quarterfinals.

NSU will host the LCIRSA State Championships for softball, soccer and basketball on April 23-26.
