The Region 6 LaSTEM Center hosted by Northwestern State University, is located on the Cenla Campus in Alexandria. Our focus is on preparing individuals of all ages for successful careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Our mission is to expand access to high-quality STEM education that fosters innovation, builds confidence, and equips learners with the skills needed for the future workforce.
Region 6 LaSTEM collaborates with industry partners, educational institutions, community organizations, and workforce development agencies to provide targeted engagement opportunities. These include professional development for educators, industry-focused programs, workforce training initiatives, and partnerships that ensure equitable access to STEM learning across the region.
We serve Avoyelles, Catahoula, Concordia, Grant, LaSalle, Rapides, and Winn parishes through initiatives such as Workforce Readiness training, Robotics programs, collaborations with the Hope House of Central Louisiana, Youth Challenge STEM programs, and Invention Convention. Our statewide initiative, “RECIPE for Rural STEM,” emphasizes that STEM education should be Relevant, Educational, Career Minded, Impactful, Purposeful, and Engaging to meet regional workforce needs.
