October Tech Toolbox: Ensure Accessibility in Courses
In April 2024, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) issued the ADA Final Rule for Digital Accessibility under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This rule sets enforceable standards for ensuring that web content and digital materials are accessible to individuals with disabilities. Under DOJ Rule (28 CFR Part 35) and the University of Louisiana System Digital Accessibility Policy (M-25), all course material must be fully ADA compliant, conforming to WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards, by April 24, 2026. The new requirements specify that all documents publicly available on web sites and posted or included in classes must meet these minimum standards. For more information on the ruling, refer to this Fact Sheet produced by ADA.gov. Read on to learn more about what this means and how to get assistance as you work to ensure these standards are met.
