July Tech Toolbox: UPDATE: sharing Files from Microsoft 365
As of July 14, 2026, ITS is adjusting the DEFAULT sharing permissions in Microsoft 365. This change will not impact any sharing that has previously been done, and all previous sharing settings will remain available. Previously, the initial settings of a share link were “anyone with the link can edit.” The default permissions will change to “people at Northwestern State University can view.” This will make it less likely to accidentally allow files to be edited. However, if the intent is for a colleague to collaborate on the document or folder being shared, it will be necessary to pause and pay attention to settings.
