Student Employment at Northwestern State University (NSU) helps you pay for college, build real experience, and join a vibrant campus community. Whether you’re a high school senior planning your next step, a transfer student, a working professional seeking career advancement, or a parent helping your student succeed, NSU makes campus jobs simple and accessible. It’s practical financial aid in action—supporting affordable degree programs while preparing you for what’s next.

Types of Employment

Federal Work-Study (FWS)

Available to students eligible for Title IV federal aid. FWS provides jobs for undergraduate and graduate students who qualify. NSU determines hours based on financial need. Indicate interest for FWS in your myNSU account or email the Financial Aid Office to be reviewed for eligibility.

Work-Study Job Description: assist with office and customer service tasks—answering phones, greeting and assisting customers, copying, filing, data entry, ordering supplies, and other duties as needed.

NSU Employment Scholarship

Students are awarded an on-campus position by the University Scholarship Committee. Employment Scholarship recipients must meet the enrollment requirements outlined in the scholarship award letter.

General Student Employment

On-campus positions funded by departments with self-generated revenue and roles requiring specific skills (e.g., tutoring, computer programming, lifeguarding, night/weekend roles). Students paid by departmental funds are not also eligible for federal funding for the same job.

Off-Campus Student Employment

The Job Location & Development (JLD) Office is a free service for students seeking off-campus jobs. Find them on the 3rd floor of the Student Union.

How to Apply

Each year, complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and all other required NSU financial aid forms. Priority deadline: May 1.
