NATCHITOCHES – The Natchitoches-Northwestern Symphony Orchestra will perform on Tuesday, March 18 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Tickets are $16.50 if purchased online at https://nnssla.org/ticket-sales or $15 at the door. The concert will feature winners of the annual NSU Concerto Competition. Dr. Douglas Bakenhus is musical director of the Natchitoches-Northwestern Symphony Orchestra. Syll-Young Olson is assistant director, Andrej Kuti is the guest conductor and Sofiko Tchetchelashvili is instructor.
The concerto winners are Erick Cabrera on piano, Carlos Díaz del Valle and Josias Ramos Alvarado on violin and Ronald Zaldaña Sanchez on viola.
The program will be “Nocturno für Harmonie-Musik, Op. 24” by Felix Mendelssohn, “La Sonata per la Grand Viola, Op. 35” by Niccolò Paganini featuring Sanchez, “Zigeunerweisen (Gypsy Airs), Op. 20” by Pablo de Sarasate featuring del Valle, “Symphonie Espagnole in D minor, Op. 21” by Édouard Lalo featuring Alvarado, “Ruslan and Ludmila Overture” by Mikhail Glinka, “Piano Concerto No. 20 in D Minor, K. 466” by Mozart featuring Cabrera and “Procession of Nobles from ‘Mlada’” by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov.
