NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State University will offer an in-person Remote Pilot Certification prep course, a comprehensive two-day, instructor-led workshop designed to prepare individuals for the FAA Remote Pilot Certification Exam.

The course will take place Sept. 13-14 in Kyser Hall Room 107 at a cost of $250 and is open to professionals, entrepreneurs, educators, public safety personnel and anyone interested in legal and safe commercial drone use.

Instruction will cover the following.

  • FAA laws, rules, and federal regulations for drone operations
  • Legal & ethical considerations for remote pilots
  • Drone operational safety and risk management
  • Airspace classifications & restrictions
  • Aviation weather essentials
  • Aeronautical Decision Making (ADM) basics
  • Ground crew responsibilities
  • Reading & interpreting sectional charts
  • Intro to the National Airspace System (NAS)

Instructors will be JD Cox, Adelaide Soileau and Travis Mitchell, NSU’s ARGO (Advanced Remote and Geospatial Operations) Lab team.
