NATCHITOCHES – The Sixth Annual Drums Along the River concert will be presented on Friday, Oct. 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the downtown riverbank stage in Natchitoches. Admission is free and open to the public.
The concert will feature the Spirit of Northwestern Percussion Section under the direction of Dr. Andrew Blair and the NSU Steel PanDEMONium Band and Samba Batucada Band under Dr. Oliver Molina. The drumline will perform stand cadences, traditional school songs and show music from the Spirit of Northwestern production titled “Winner Takes All.”
The steel band is made up of instruments from the island nation of Trinidad and Tobago. Molina said the unique timbre and infectious dance beats make it a fun and exciting concert. The program will include some island classics such as “Limbo” and “Jump in the Line” as well as pop songs such as “Take On Me” by A-ha and “Hot To Go!” by Chappell Roan. The samba band will perform an arrangement of traditional rhythms and grooves from Brazil.
