NATCHITOCHES – The Filo Rosso Duo will perform at Northwestern State University on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 5 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Admission is free, and the public is invited to attend. A livestream will be available at www.nsu.la/CAPA-LIVE.
The Filo Rosso Duo is José Ottonello on cello and Yin Lin on piano. They will play works by Rachmaninoff, Barber, Schumann, Piazzolla, D ‘ Rivera, Marquez and Estrada.
Lin is a collaborative pianist and educator with an extensive background in performance, accompaniment and artistic leadership. Born in Shanghai, China, she began studying piano at the age of three, later earning a bachelor’s and master’s degree in music education and piano performance from Shanghai Normal University. Recognizing her true passion for collaborative piano, she pursued further studies in the United States, earning artist diplomas in keyboard collaborative arts from Azusa Pacific University and La Sierra University.
Her career as a collaborative pianist has taken her across the United States, China, and Europe, where she has worked alongside internationally acclaimed musicians such as Victoria Livengood, Lisette Oropesa, Alan Smith, Glenn Dicterow and Yi-Bing Chu. She has served as a staff accompanist for the Mayfield Senior School Women’s Ensemble and the University of Redlands, as well as playing a pivotal role in keyboard and piano outreach at the NAMM Show in 2019 and 2021. In addition, she was invited to serve as a piano coach for the World of Pianos event at the 2021 NAMM Show.
Ottonello is a Uruguayan Italian cellist, researcher, conductor and educator known for his work with Kodály, Ginastera, Tosar and Nicastro. He serves as director of orchestras at The Webb School in Tennessee, assistant professor at ENFA–SODRE (Uruguay), and founder/artistic director of the El Salvador Chamber Music Festival. He founded the Hattiesburg Civic Orchestra and served as conductor and cello specialist in Hattiesburg Public Schools. His former faculty positions include Loyola University New Orleans and William Carey University and he has served as TA at LSU, Universidad de la República (Uruguay), and UNICACH (Mexico). He has taught at festivals across the U.S. and Latin America, including New Orleans, Houston, New York, Buenos Aires, CDMX, Xalapa, Bogotá, Loja, and Montevideo.
He has performed with orchestras such as the Mendoza Symphony (Argentina), Panama National Symphony, IPU Orchestra (Paraguay), Loja Symphony (Ecuador), LSU Symphony and the Academic Chamber Orchestra and MEC Chamber Orchestra of Uruguay. He currently serves as principal cellist with the Tennessee Philharmonic, Jackson Symphony and Starkville Symphony and has held principal positions in several U.S. orchestras. He also served as principal cellist with the National Symphony Orchestra of Uruguay for 11 years.
