NATCHITOCHES – Kimberly Antee Martin with Northwestern State University’s Creole Heritage Center will be guest speaker at the Natchitoches Genealogical and Historical Association meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27. The title of her talk will be “If Bousillage Could Talk: The Hidden Stories of the Badin-Roque House, Cane River.” The talk coincides with Creole Heritage Month, celebrated annually in October.
The meeting will be at the Old Courthouse Museum, 600 Second St.
Martin will talk about the people who lived in the Badin-Roque House, a historic poteaux-en-terre (posts in the ground) house located on Hwy. 484 near Melrose. Though the date of its construction is uncertain, Martin has researched the house’s secession records from the early 1800s and its use as both a school and a home until it was acquired by the St. Augustine Historical Society in 1979.
