The class is extremely popular and is being offered through Northwestern State University’s Office of Electronic Learning and Global Engagement via Zoom on Tuesday, Feb. 3 from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. The fee for the class is $85.
According to Coffman, hundreds of colleges and community education programs sponsor this class from coast to coast.
“Some people think that you can’t really learn to play an instrument without shelling out thousands of dollars for private lessons,” said Coffman. “While private music instruction is valuable, it is also very costly, and you must carve out time in your schedule every week for this. For many people, that’s not possible. The good news is that today there are many ways of approaching this. Many students are finding that the Instant Guitar Class is a good alternative for them and their schedule.”
The Instant Guitar class is a one-time 2.5-hour crash course that can get you strumming along with your favorite songs right away. The class has been taught live on college campuses for many years, but now it is taught live exclusively online using zoom. In the class you will learn how to form five basic chords on the guitar and how to strum. The class also introduces some basic information about how music is put together, which will go a long way to help you understand what is going on. The class is designed for absolute beginners, and you get to take the class in a more private setting at home. Also, because of the mute button feature, participants don’t have to worry about playing in front of other people. A clip of the guitar class is available at youtube.com/watch?v=aJRFW97q_Fs
The class includes an online book, the online recorded follow-up lessons and a professionally recorded version of the class. An optional monthly question and answer session is also available at no added charge.
