NATCHITOCHES – Two members of the Northwestern State faculty completed the Cenla Boardbuilders program, which offers governance training for individuals looking to take their volunteering to the next level. Dr. Leslie Gruesbeck, associate professor and head of the Department of Fine and Graphic Arts, and Steven Gruesbeck, executive director of Healthcare ACE and CENLA Mental Health Workforce Accelerator Program, completed the training, which prepares community leaders in the nonprofit sector who are working to address meaningful causes.
Cenla Boardbuilders is administered by The Rapides Foundation’s Community Development Works program.
“Community Development Works did an outstanding job of facilitating networking with others across central Louisiana,” Steve Gruesbeck said. “We learn a tremendous amount about non-profit organizations and the boards that guide and support them in fulfilling their missions.”
“I’m so appreciative of Community Development Works, The Rapides Foundation and NSU for giving me this opportunity,” Leslie Gruesbeck said. “It was extremely worthwhile, and I learned so much in a very concentrated amount of time. CENLA Boardbuilders also provided an excellent opportunity to network with others interested in creating positive change in our communities.”
Topics and activities included the nature of nonprofit boards, fund development, fiduciary responsibilities, leadership and a networking lunch with nonprofit partners.
“The opportunity to network with others and learn more about nonprofit organizations and their boards was great,” Steve Gruesbeck said.
“I’m very proud to have had Northwestern State represented by Leslie and Steve,” said Dr. Francene Lemoine, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. “This program has allowed each of them to gain a greater understanding of how to develop and engage with advisory boards, skills that will not only aid Northwestern State but will also allow for a better community involvement and assistance.”
“I am proud of these accomplishments and grateful for our ongoing partnership with Community Development Works and The Rapides Foundation,” said Dr. Neeru Deep, dean of the Gallaspy Family College of Education and Human Development.
