NATCHITOCHES – The Marie Shaw Dunn Child Development Center at Northwestern State University will hold a Ribbon Cutting ceremony on Tuesday, June 2 at 1 p.m. at the Center which is located at the NSU Elementary Lab School at 1 Caldwell Drive on the Northwestern State campus.
According to CDC Director Faith Stanfield Birdwell, the event will celebrate the redesign of the Center’s learning environment in collaboration with the NSU Child and Family Network. Birdwell said the goal was to create a model space that other programs can visit and use as inspiration for their own transformations.
“With the guidance and support of Nancy Alexander and the Child and Family Network, our team successfully reimagined the space into one that is more developmentally appropriate and reflective of Montessori and Reggio-inspired practices,” said Birdwell.
The project was completed last summer, and the ceremony will also celebrate a successful first year in the redesigned CDC.
“This event will allow us to take a moment to recognize the Child and Family Network for their meaningful contributions to our program and to our community,” said Birdwell. “As we continue expanding these efforts into additional spaces throughout our community, we are excited to share what this work looks like in action.”
Through this initiative with CFN, childcare centers across Natchitoches Parish are being offered the opportunity to transform their environments into innovative, developmentally appropriate spaces, and NSU CDC is proud to serve as a model site for this work.
The event is presented by the Natchitoches Area Chamber of Commerce.
