NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State University’s Department of Engineering Technology will host N-Side Engineering Technology and Advanced Manufacturing where prospective high school students can learn about careers and scholarship opportunities, connect with faculty and network with industry professionals in the region.
N-Side Engineering Technology will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 3 in Williamson Hall on the NSU campus. Parents and guardians are encouraged to attend as well.
In addition to sharing information about degree programs in Industrial Engineering Technology and Electrical Engineering Technology, prospective students can learn about the Advanced Manufacturing Program in which participants attend class part-time and are employed part-time with an industry partner and apply what they learn in class to work experience.
Those who attend will be guided in faculty- and student-led small groups through ET labs for interactive demonstrations withelectrical circuits, robotics, metal working, 3D printing, 3D design and industrial automation through programmable logic controllers (PLC) and motor control.
“Once they have seen what our department has to offer, they will then go to Williamson Hall Room 217 where our industry partners will setup career fair style booths with some displays of what they do as a company and with representatives there to answer questions about what the student could do as an intern for their company and then grow their career beyond graduation,” said Instructor and Lab Coordinator Craig Caskey.
“Our programs are considered applied degree programs, where you are learning not only the ‘why’ behind certain foundational concepts but also the how the concepts work, better preparing students for their future careers in a technical field,” Caskey said.
NSU Recruiters will be available to answer questions about admissions, scholarships and student life at the university.
