Choosing Pre-Law and Paralegal Studies at NSU gives you the skills and experience to move confidently into the legal field. Students build a strong research and writing portfolio, complete the Paralegal Studies Certificate in as little as one fall–spring year, and gain hands-on experience through internships and mock trial opportunities.

Courses are taught by experienced attorneys and judges, allowing students to earn college credit while learning real-world legal skills that prepare them for law school or a paralegal career.

These focused, attorney-taught courses build a strong foundation in legal knowledge and practical skills—preparing you for success in the courtroom, the office, or law school with real-world readiness.

Introduction to the Law

Explore how both the common and civil law traditions developed in the United States. Learn about legal ethics, court structures, and how the legal profession has evolved over time.

Legal Research and Writing I & II

Gain essential research and writing skills using state and federal digests, judicial reports, law journals, and court rules. Practice citation, case analysis, and drafting professional legal documents. In legal research classes, you will learn on the LexisNexis for Law School platform so you are ready to conduct research and analysis at a law firm, or gain an advantage if you plan to go to law school.

Litigation

Learn about litigation strategy and methods from the client interview to the trial and everything in between including the rules of evidence, motions practice, and factual investigations. You’ll leave with a portfolio you can share with employers.

PLPS graduates also frequently use their skills to gain law firm employment while still in law school.
